I would like to acknowledge that my physical location is situated on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg ( Ah-nish-NAH-beg) people, which include the Odawa ( Oh-DAH-wah), Ojibwe ( O-jib-we), and Pottawatomi ( boh-tah-WAH-toh-mee) Nations, and the Wendat ( wen-dat) Nation (Huron) prior to the middle of the 17th century. This land is currently referred to by its settler name of Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

I acknowledge the grave injustices and genocide committed against First Nations, Métis, and Inuit People on this land, Turtle Island. I am committed to honouring Indigenous history and culture while moving forward towards reconciliation. I will continue my ongoing support of my local Indigenous organizations through monetary reparations, ongoing historical and cultural education, participation in local events, and other calls to action in my area.
